The Stranger
I remember that look; Your face, true disdain I think it's that, which struck me most The hate your eyes displayed It was never my intent when you walked in through the door My smile was all I had to offer My presentation was much too poor I know who I am And I was never much adored But your sneer cut right through me Like nothing I've felt before From your lips you whispered sharply As you ordered up your food And you thought I couldn't hear your slight Just a cook without a clue But I heard you And those words were most sincere A wound which pierced my dignity And never truly healed Since that evenings encounter Twenty years give or take I'd love to see that look again And wipe it from your face I'd tell you who I am And who I'd soon become That I've done and seen things How Many times I’ve proved you wrong I'm sure you have grown And treat other strangers well I'm sure friends and family care for you So I'll wish you no ill will But just once, I hope you struggle And your bowls strikes you lame And you think of me, that ugly cook And your burger that I made
