Cat Among the Pigeons
Three old friends, for the first time in years, were enjoying a meal, discussing with zeal, the present, not delving into past faults and fears They had all found success, joy, and peace. Then a blast from the past, a pain in the ________, Sadie, nicknamed “Sadist,” unbeknownst to her, swooped in like a buzzard landing on dinner. Sadie’s memory of the temptations these three had caved to, every moment of chagrin they’d winced through, was vivid, as she would demonstrate. She flashed the smarmy smile that made others hate seeing her sashaying in their direction. As she parked herself in the fourth chair, the three froze, recalling how, years before, she would stalk them relentlessly, then share details of their failings with their parents, pastors, and other friends. With Sadie, the threat of exposure never ends. Her explanation at the time: “Well, bless your hearts. My intentions were the best. Mine was a noble quest. You needed to change—for your own good.” Sadie long-time-no-see’d each one, then said, “My sources tell me you are all doing really well. I’m SO glad and—well, surprised considering the hell you three used to raise. LOL!" Suddenly, one of the captives complained of feeling ill and rushed to the ladies’ room. The other two hurried after her. All escaped doom by fleeing out the back door, leaving “Sadist” with all that ammunition and no one to shoot at!
