Homesick
HOMESICK I used to go away to camp and have a lot of fun, But I was glad when I came home and that long week was done. For often I would think of home and Mom and Dad back there, And I would long to see their face and hear their voices fair. When duty called, I bravely went to serve my country free; In Army camp I longed for home where happy I would be. One day I went far overseas and served in a strange land Where fear and death and other things would haunt each serviceman. I longed for home and knew the year would seem so very long, But the day came when I flew back home with joy and happy song. And still today I oft go back to that same house and see My mom, and sometimes we will talk and share the memory. One day I got a call that said my father now had gone, His soul had taken flight to see his glorious heavenly home. And though we often disagreed and quarreled when we wrote, I find myself now longing for another written note. And though through life I’ve heard about that promised land so fair, Much more homesick I find myself because a loved one’s there. The songs about reunion days now bring tears to my eyes As hope swells in my very soul to that day in the skies When all my loved ones I will see, and friends there on that shore, And ever fellowship with them, there homesick never more.
