This Drives Me Bananas and Apricots
I Most of us heard of Grace, and perhaps its Hebrew origin in CHESED, to show God's work in human lives. As modern and progressive, our educated elites have rebelled against the idea we get anything for nothing, even with God. That is natural thinking; may we suggest if God thinks, its supernatural - not natural or human - thinking. But what drives me nuts is when people discuss "Grace" (see definition, reminder, below) and then say "I/he/she is SENT from God and is thus an apostle." Or some such permutation of being in a special category. Yes, it is possible to be awarded top roles even in the church by God, but then the Scripture repeats severally, No one is to brag about gifts, since like the human body, organs, limbs ... each has a specific role. The WHOLE matters." Grace is unearned favor or blessings of God. The ACRONYM may be employed thus: G Gods R Riches A At C Christ's E Expense The warnings not to risk a Fall from Grace (Bible, the real source of that idiom!) are from Ephesians 2:8 and Paul's Letter to the Galatians. In the latter, the Amplified Bible puts it most usefully for current purposes. And I quote, with square brackets in the quote itself: "You have been severed from Christ, if you seek to be justified [that is, declared free of the guilt of sin and its penalty, and placed in right standing with God] through the Law; you have fallen from grace [for you have lost your grasp on God’s unmerited favor and blessing]." shalom, shalom!
