This Xmas Eve
The night air feels crisp and cool as dusk unveils a trillion stars and alabaster snowflakes softly tumble to the ground in silence. I can see some houses decorated with Christmas scenes while others are decked out in colored lights. And in the distance, I faintly hear the sound of carolers singing Xmas songs, their harmony harassed by blustery breezes. But on this wintery night and only this night, I also hear the silver tinkle of sleigh bells jingling, echoing off the edge of imagination, where children's excited giggles override reality. This Xmas Eve the atmosphere feels electrified, in anticipation of a covid free Christians Day. And soon, it’ll be time to lull the kids to sleep and let them dream of what tomorrow will bring. Xmas holds a magical feeling that only innocence can impart, and it’s known to warm the coldest heart. (Imagism) 11/26/2021 ''X'' Contest, New or Old Poetry Contest Sponsored by: Constance La France
