Eyes of the Soul
He was coming toward me Nothing, save him, could I see His smile screamed for attention His eyes froze my apprehension What color might that be What sights must he have seen His eyes were fear and manipulation Strength, dependence, desperation His eyes were paralyzed above me Hovering, unmoving, unwilling to see But I saw the pain and the price he had paid No longer willing to accept any aid They were dead and he was to blame Or so I saw through all of his shame What had he done to get this twisted Why did he aim the gun that he fisted His eyes were crazed, distant, distraught Who had done this; he must have been taught He screamed; I shook We shared a feared look My eyes, forgiveness plead What trespass had I said His eyes were sad No longer was he mad "I'm sorry" he sobbed "My life has been robbed" "It's fine" I stuttered Should I even have uttered "My soul is the devil's; kill you, I must. Please don't look at me with disgust" I nod my submission, "do it fast", I pray He lifted his gun and his eyes did say "Forgive me, beautiful. Don't think me cruel But the devil, my master, I follow his rule." The shot wasn't painful until I saw his eyes I heard them say sorry between my many cries As I fell, he caught me; laid me down fondly I welcomed his master; might I add, fairly calmly
