Daddy's Little Girl
I have been many things in my life and my dreams. I’ve even dwelled in a shell with a pearl But my favorite thing that I’ve always been Is Daddy’s Little Girl. Why I fell from a pony into a sea of macaroni At that time I was probably about three But I wasn’t even scared not one little bit Cause my daddy was right there with me. Then when I was five, I thought he’d skin me alive When I painted his shoes red, white and blue. When his anger wore off, he couldn’t help but laugh. And Daddy’s Little Girl laughed too. I remember the pride I saw in his eyes, His little girl - no longer a clown As she marched up an isle with other Daddy’s Little Girls In an all white cap and gown. Another time I marched up an aisle He was there right by my side He whispered, “Where did the time go? My little girl is a beautiful bride.” Now those days are gone. I have a daughter of my own. But when I walk through my parents’ door My father doesn’t greet the mommy or the wife, But Daddy’s Little Girl once more.
