Secretariat Is Free
I must run so I might be free... and I feel free because I run. Breath draws deep past the lone oak tree, Just my friend and I, 'Secretariat', race to have fun. Fast through the grass and down the long lane, passing grazing cows in the brilliant twilight. ever quicker now, the wind dances through my mane. The old bull's giving chase, what an awkward funny sight. To the corner by the pond, the ruddy ducks take flight, as the yeller dog comes running by the old red barn. The hens go to the left and the geese off to the right. The farmer tries to slow us, slips, falls, and hollers, darn! The hoof beat thunder slows as we enter our stalls, We see the moon now rising over the hills to the east. The farmer and his daughter hit the pin and the latch falls. They treat us well, a brush, blanket, and welcome feast. The moon now high; barnyard quiet, calm, and serene. We're dozing off and on, after fresh honey oats and hay, Dreaming that I must run, so I might feel free. Yes, 'Secretariat' will run for tomorrow's another day!
