I Took the High Road
"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour." 1 Peter 5:8 _King James Bible ____________ I met her at dance class ... she was so friendly ... and soon we were friends we would go for coffee after class for hours because we talked about all things for months we were always two ~ then after many months her demeaner changed I struggled to figure what was wrong but came up empty with a reason for her coldness ~ we still went for coffee after class often others would join us it was fun to chat and laugh but "she" did not laugh she sat there cold people noticed ... ~ and were asking me what was wrong I had no idea but her look was like a dagger she, suddenly stopped calling me ~ I wanted to know what was going on so I called her several times but, she never returned my calls and stopped coming to dance class ... I sensed it had to do with me ... but what ? I was so hurt and "rejected" ... ~ but after reflection I knew I did nothing wrong and what I did next ... even surprised me ... I took the high road and never looked back ~ ________________________ October 10, 2021 Poetry/Free Verse/I Took the High Road Copyright Protected, ID 10-1396-471-20 All Rights Reserved, 2021, Constance La France Written for the Premier contest, The High Road sponsor, Regina McIntosh, Judged 10/26/2021 Third Place
