A Letter To My Future Self
A Letter to My Future Self By Echo Hicks Dear Future Me, Hi, it’s you from your senior year of high school. Do you remember me at all? Am I a blurry picture that you can’t quite make out the details of? Or am I captured in 480P? How much have we changed? I hope we changed a lot. But not too far beyond recognition. I do like to look at pictures and see who I was. How much have we learned? I want to learn about everything. Do I keep my wonder and star-dazed eyes? Or will I lose the passion that helped me get through it all? I wonder about you all the time. I wonder if you ever wonder about me? Probably not, you know how the story ends so why reread it? I hope you think about me every once in a while. I think about past me sometimes too. I think about that kid in Freshman biology who was just trying to stay alive. I think about the Sophomore who was finding out who they are. I think about a Junior who didn’t know how to stop crying. So I hope you think about me, A Senior with a whole life ahead of them. The one with the future in their grasp, And with a bit too much butter on their hands. I hope you’re happy. I really do. I want to look at my future and see something worth living for. Something worth going through this hell. So I hope you’re happy, For the both of us. I hope you figure out what happens past age 35. I hope you don’t give up. And I won’t give up either. I’ll fight alongside you. That way we can hold each other accountable. We both know we can get a bit lost sometimes. Please, take care of me whenever you are. I’ll take care of you too. And soon enough I’ll have the pleasure of meeting you. Don’t wait up. Sincerely, You
