Child In Me
In this blest childhood stature, may I stay Savoring God’s goodness day after day Cheerfully walking upon peaceful way Basking under freedom, so purely gay. With child*-like faith, I please my Christ today Devoid of pretense along heaven’s ray Verily trusting, while hope-propped to pray Guarded by angels whenever I play. Midst childish game, I fulfill roles’ array A mom feeding dolls through flowery tray Doctor nursing patients without delay Teacher asserting between yea or nay. As my child-star sparkle goes for display I forsake shoes meant for graceful ballet “Charity princess now serves you,” I say Shining as light to those who go astray. Allowing the child in me to sashay I let myself frolic there on the bay Learning enigmatic tones, shading gray Singing, “Baby Jesus sleeps on the hay.” Never outgrowing fave child toy of clay My heart longs for parents’ love I can’t pay Their molding nurture of caring bouquet Keeps on wafting kindness-scent they did spray. Now to the Lord --- my child spirit I lay Always exploring as He drives fears away Still advancing with faith from evil sway “Praising You, Father” I’m blest to relay. *Luke 18:17 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.
