northern lights ignite
under these green and yellow northern lights i got a burning desire that ignites and in my bones i can feel the flames and i know i will never be the same i am cold and i am distant but you are warm and you are resistant and in your arms i am the permafrost undone melting in the sun do not object it is not perfect this life lived on cantilever balanced on the edge of oblivion and forever i can stand a bit of rain if you were to love me wholly even when insane even when full of shame i could ride it out the storms in your eyes that come on with the whiskey breath in the winds the willows waving goodbye tempting me to run urging me to run but i shall remain steadfast planted here like a willow tree 100s of years old with tire swings i shall be here when all the world has turned to ash and smoke a last bastion of tragic hope i wont let go waves of greens cascade over me from above my trajectory splashing me with colours i had never before seen a wide array of shades you couldnt believe the green light you had given me with a wink and a nod and a gesture of come hither i was suddenly supine and i felt like slithering serpentine towards you i couldnt quite understand the meaning of why i felt so sly but i knew i had you the moment we locked eyes aeons ago when the sky was just a black canvas for our masterpiece painting of teenage love gone awry oh i will sing it on high this neon love affair written in the sky flashing lights fireworks in the night lullabies written with light illuminating our sight the pain and the loss of time the regret in the very last line i should have stayed, i should have never left.
