The Stranger

The Stranger My life warps by its beasts of woes depression dogs my day at night, stress drains my restless soul the wrongs have no delay Myself am I, forsook decreed hope laid by things undone a key to mom's blessed leather book gave words that days begun Her primes of fasting, times on end I learned, preferred my heart be made of mind in one accord blessed be the Lord, I start Be free of food but eat rich plants from springs, drink cupped in palms reading, nibbling, drinking, prayer sleeping, and voiceless psalms Silence is done most faithfully while chores as fair they'd be within or out about the house fasting, a constant key Unanswered calls keep quietude just heed the called device if must, pray mercy, need to stray return to fast, suffice Mind says no tho' heart is willing front door alter the cause a stormy night with gusty gales came knocks without a pause Got I, posthaste and opened wide a man who's of some youth blood trails down slightly his damp face says here's the gospel truth My car veered off this country road into a rock-walled fence I did naught want to hit some dog my wound proves my defense I led him with my outstretched arm to the front room's lounge seat alone, went I to close the door got wraps and meds to treat He left his cell inside the car as he rushed to my home Triple-A is on my phone, states wreck, NO, it's mired in loam They said that they are limited by havocs storm had wrought while road crews free up most roadways they'll help those in a spot With coffee, rolls, his head wrapped up robust hearth dons a smile he says out west he's aiming for to change his life in style His dad taught at a college where he met his future wife the past ten years and Europe's fate, came him, their new wildlife The discourse on the life he loved with them just by his side moment by moment changes all telltale, his voice filled pride He notes sheets spread upon The Word were mom's words that I'd aimed next to a pre-addressed mailer whereby my name eyes claimed He then said can he call me Will nods I, so to accept the lecture goes, midst drinks and food involved implies I'm swept The tempest loops the house and past its efforts rush on in he says The Word he heard from those guilt tried, confessed their sin He saw thwart lives so worst now great a book of good, indeed he states a Christian he is naught but, of a distinct creed Thence knew I, he'd be of a kind a polished breed so rare respect (held trait), one's privacy birth's decency an heir Mid tears near-kept, when his dad died left him to mind his mom with father gone, had taxed her soul he nursed her to a calm When she fell ill, he lost his will his Christian friends, he sought he needs parts of The Word retold as both creeds truly taught In times of need, the light will shine his mother said to him his father's waiting there for her she smiled as her lights dimmed They're bound on earth, heaven to be as said by those with faith heed their creeds and walk with Who leads as all good books hath saith The winds scratched panes by bushes twigs a hearth warms by two hearts a life so rich by one so young it's like one in two parts As time wore on though storm did naught hoping night knew no ends then knocks made by a tow truck man prompts hugs from newfound friends Subjects he dealt with, pleased his soul forced a face to a gleam I'm glad that mines were filled, save one ... his name, still, a blest theme He shook my hand but did naught ask why I spoke naught to youth smiles I, waves bye, the nameless leaves methinks I just met Ruth I came from far, a world of rage placed on a pedestal engaged this peace and calming lore witnessed incredible This truly be my righteous day cites noble fairs precise my opened heart its stead, say yay kept me in good advice A soul of valor, bless divines accounts that sweetly sorts so worthy be its choice defines that night did set the course Glad tidings are these wondrous gifts be two in one accord mom's book of fasting surely lifts two servants of the Lord. 2021 August 25 *1st Place* Your Second Chance 1ST Poetry Contest ~~Sotto Poet: Judged 2022 September 14 *1st Place* BEATITUDE RHYMING ~~Beata Agustin: Judged 2021 December 28 *HM* Soul ~~Robert James Liguori: Judged 2021 November 20
