Violet
Rehearsal ends; the music fades. She heads for her apartment down the block. And Violet sets a steady pace, her footsteps like the ticking of a clock. Never answers when a stranger calls, “Hey baby, wanna dance?” While the traffic and the neon have her falling in a trance; Slipping into a world of her own, a breath at a time. She turns the key and sets the lock, Then slides the bolt and fumbles with the chain, In dreams she paints the northern sky In shades that match the color of her name. Tugging gently at her ribbons. Turning slowly on her mark. Taking off her ballet stockings. Standing naked in the dark. Slipping into a world of her own, a breath at a time. Her dark curls frame a ghostly face. Shy fingers trace the heat that breaks in waves. Her heartbeat tells the rise and fall of every swirling passion she enslaves. Graceful form in tragic splendor, doesn’t realize her worth. She’s a captive of the spirit; needs an artist of the earth To escape from a world of her own a breath at a time. Hey there, Violet, you’re alone and it’s a shame. So help me, Violet, I’ve been feeling much the same, Slipping into a world of my own, a breath at a time. Violet, you could be the music to my words; let’s fly this thing home. Hey there Violet, you don’t have to dance alone. So help me, Violet, let me be your chaperone, Slipping into a world of our own, a breath at a time.
