I was confident like most city people, but was afraid just a BIT. I saw two bodies turn the corner as I was halfway down the BLOCK. Yes, I could feel disaster coming but could not turn back the CLOCK. Straight to me they came with gun in hand; my first taste of ROBBERY. They never had to say, "Freeze". I was dumbstruck and already frozen. Both they and I were silent, $90 taken, and that night is now HISTORY. Life often hits us hard, and there was nothing different or special about ME. Just like you and me, every living being has that longing inside to be set FREE. And sometimes, to face things head on, refusing to be held captive, is a powerful KEY. Like David, I too walked through the valley of the shadows of death, but I feared EVIL. Moreover, there was something deep inside of me, finding ways to resist the DEVIL. There is a “God planted” device in the human spirit that overflows with DETERMINATION. There lies in the human psychic a mentality that will not be bullied or denied of its DESTINATION. There is a God-Voice within, saying, “In spite of the things that I go THROUGH, I’ve got people to see and things to DO. There are people who need me; I’ve got places to GO. Without adversity, I will not GROW. Fear can’t bind me; whatever comes, I totally understand that God is holding my hands”. With love in her little brown eyes and a half-smile on her beautiful face, my bold and small framed grandmother would have said to me, “SON, do not be afraid.
