We two had never met, but somehow he learned of our plight of auto disrepair, to which he responded in a most kind and gracious fashion, in a manner one seldom experiences in the whole of life. The fact that I was getting someone of trustworthiness and recommended by an acquaintance of note, was pleasing enough, but it would take a turn and develop into something of such magnanimous proportion, so genuine and far beyond my expectations. We met in my driveway where our SUV stood silently, and though it looked very impressive and capable of many more trouble-free miles, the fact became conclusive that the transmission was shot, having refused to transmit us another mile. Oh, did I mention that this SUV was still beautiful and in top-notch condition when my wife's friend gifted it to her some 8 years prior? Prior to such gifting, we had never experienced such human kindness. Now it was broken down, but a new chapter on giving was about to be written. Not to worry, because the next chapter began with 7 powerful words from the lips of the mechanic and my newly-found friend, changing the trajectory of both our mobility future and also that of the SUV. Before we ever shook hands or before he diagnosed the vehicle, he said 7 words to me, "God told me not to charge you". I was grateful and speechless. OMG; Wow! He labored with dedication in his attempt to save that transmission, but was unable to repair it, where upon he was able to locate an affordable replacement whose purchasing price fell right in line with the amount that a most gracious lady had already donated for whatever was needed. With the donated funds and the donated labor, we were 'on the road again'. 081121PSCtest, NA in 'Kindness Poetry Contest', Judged 82121. This contest, August 2021 NA's, Constance La France
