I Swear
well … you were there - you saw it all you witnessed while I tried to scrawl with bloodied hand a thread of shine to seep the crack and keep her mine absconding hope from wishes, grand a final message scratched thru sand … “You never meant that much to me” - I swear, she never did … yes, men my ilk, we’re scoundrels, true we’ll daub our lies with shades of blue and phrase our gifts of love too soon all wrapped in beams of summer moon hence, don’t conclude I found her rare for sake I’ve saved these locks, her hair she never meant that much to me - I swear, she never did … well, you know me, I’m quick to wax romantic - damned be truth or facts for such pursuits of curves and flesh can oft’ demand that tongues enmesh through mischiefs naught but libertine so, though I graced her like my queen she never meant that much to me - I swear, she never did … this love thing’s just a game you see why can’t some rascals play for free? she’s just one more who made my list of sweetened angels kept and kissed and though she’s tattooed on my arm don’t think me captured by her charm she never meant that much to me - I swear, she never did … now, all the damsels come and gone are what my poems are versed upon those conquests of my fool’s desires make sure these pages rage as fires and though she’s muse of ALL I write don’t think she’s precious in my sight she never meant that much to me - I swear, she never did … oh yes, she strides an angel’s grace and heaven bleeds to blush her face my heart so thrums her beck and call so, let the tide wipe clear, my scrawl though I’d give life for one last kiss don’t think she’s dearer me than this: she never meant that much to me - I swear, she never did … I swear … ~ 1st Place ~ in the "Once More I Failed the Truth" Poetry Contest, Kai Michael Neumann Judge & Sponsor.
