My Old Girl Update
My. dog, my old dog she just seats and stares at me Sometime my heart feels heavy from her staring There is no peace from her and though I love her I Want her to leave me alone, I need some quiet peace She will tap my foot and even scratch at my ankle To demand that I fill her feeding bowl, and it is still early She is getting old but so am I We are two old ladies, but she is difficult For my heart is sore and though I know she will die Before me I have never had a dog so demanding And she makes me sad and tired but I love her Why I wonder, perhaps it is my husband’s mistake His first dog and she is difficult and use to being Given her way, but she makes life difficult for him too Staring at him wanting to go outside, but then wanting To come inside, back and forth and we do not know If she needs to go, if we look at her she comes closer And stares more at us. she is so eager as though she has never Been fed, twice a day with a treat or two, makes me Aware that we should have not had kids and we never did We pet her and scratch her ears and tell her she is a good Dog unless she really really isn’t and then we just tell her To stop and ignore her after we have made sure all is well I love her I do and she sleeps with me but, I wonder Is it pain or is she aware of the closeness of death Does she just want to be with us in each moment that is left There are times when tears come into my eyes and I kiss her ears
