An Officer, Not a Gentleman
Here's a tale of a man called Lowe. An officer, yes. A gentleman, no. He's the one. The one on call. The one who responded. The one with gall. Never mind the why or what. Protect and serve he just could not. For, in my moment filled with fraught was that a flippant tongue I caught? Condescending words he spoke. A blatant dare. A prod and poke. The chance he had to ease my fear was lost on him. This much was clear. I could not help but pause in awe. I had no words. His left me raw. Disbelief had me on guard. This was real. My trust was marred. Most unfortunate, but now I knew. Clear as day and sadly true. The badge he wears, he does not serve. He does not honor it nor deserve. A shame to those who represent, who live by it and all it's meant. I hope that soon he'll find the key. The key to kindness, depth, some empathy. Maybe then, this boy in blue will strive to care about me and you. And, if he doesn't, I hope one day, he finds himself another's prey.
