Number 29
I remember being 19 and turning 20. It was a most troubling transition. It's rather difficult to explain except that there was something deeply meaningful about gradually turning from boy to man, and I recall being deeply torn over what to do with my life and which direction my life would be taking. There was another major transition when I merged into the '30 lane' from the 'lane of '. I tell you, the number 29 sounds good to me, an age one could easily call his own for a life time. At 29, there was a great cultural change when I moved to the west coast, but there was no hurry to turn 30. In my case, not a kid anymore in the fast lane; and not an accomplished senior in the slow lane. Why could I not simply remain 29, such a lovely place in time, right in the middle lane. Why could I not just coast along, Like this piece I'm writing presently that really is a muse in a middle lane just rolling along toward nowhere in particular on a theme I never planned. I don't really know how this '29 theme' will continue nor how I will merge into the slow lane for the exit. Anyway, when I started to write these lines a few minutes ago, I was thinking about the number 49 which happens to be a number most meaningful in my life, but I guess 49, like many of 'life's' favored themes', will have to wait for another muse. 050221PS
