Finally, a Graduate
There were moments When I didn’t feel capable I didn’t know if I would make it Through the days of hard work Dedication to the revisions and edits Assurance that my plan was Inspiration from God’s wise hand There were times When I failed the tests Lacked the knowledge to progress Lost my faith in education’s idea Reevaluated my goals and felt unsure Of the way I was going and all I was learning What should I be doing? There were many dark days When storms brewed on the horizon Filling me with anguish as I struggled To find the answers, the encouragement To reach toward my dreams and pray With hope that believes and is certain All the answers will come, one way or another There were thoughts, gray and gloomy Who whispered failure through my heart Leaving shadows of melancholy and noise That filled up my thoughts with despair And made me feel like I probably should Just give up and give in to brokenness Of a desperation that said I’d lost Through it all, though I continued to absorb and grow Filling up on the knowledge So vibrant and shimmering with light As it fell across my mind and smiled On my hopes with assurance and a promise That if I simply kept trying and didn’t give up I’d reach my goals and graduate with flying colors And – I did graduate – with laughter and love Shining across my thoughts, my hopes and my dreams Coloring my life in music that believes In joy, compassion, sincerity and love Feelings that are lasting through all the battles Of a life spent reaching out for the best there is Graduation is a blessing I’ll always be thankful I completed triumphantly!
