Guns
The U.S. Constitution: Amendment 11 A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. 888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888 Over the years, my sister-in-law had come to respect my counsel and opinions. She resides in a conservative southwestern state, and I live in a liberal western state. She did not appear to be conservative, and I was certainly not liberal. She and her husband had reached an impasse over the issue of guns. I never expected that 'gun talk' would enter any of our conversations. 888888888888888888888888888888888888888888 More about that conversation later, after I step back to my childhood. Growing up in my community, there were always guns for protection and for hunting, not so much for people, but for animals. There was hardly a pickup truck whose owner did not have a gun on display in its back window. Though my father did not display his gun, it was always behind the seat. Even as a child, this was common to me, and I never felt threatened. 88888888888888888888888888888888888888888888 She decided to reach some degree of resolution by asking a question. My wife and I were visiting them on our vacation 2000 miles from home. We had been out riding together, and as we were pulling into our destination, she asked me in the presence of her husband, "What to you think about the use and ownership of guns?" Without hesitation I replied that I do not own a gun and have been fortunate that I have never needed one. But I added the fact that back home my neighbor owns a gun and was not shy about using it to protect his family; to which I further added, "I'm glad that he has one". She went silent, and there was little left to that gun conversation. 050421PSCtest, Guns, Anthony Biaanco. HM
