Mighty White the Us
Mighty White the US! How ‘white’ whites are who worship Sun and think a tan line’s fine though folks whose skin is darker tone won’t see a valentine! Let’s say proof’s real, fear’s justified, and poverty breeds crime, but who set up inequities across the board? A dime society invests in schools to level playing fields, access to doctors when one’s sick, such foresight often yields results beyond what’s bargained for when neighbors see you care, hope they float too as your boat rises - tide, or humans fair? A schooled man’s taught to understand the orbit of the moon and waters rise are linked, and storm-based ocean swells a tune that should be listened for, such knowledge shared with light and dark, not one more chance for gain, whites ’fiddle’ (think they own God’s Ark!) How white we are to join a club that orchestrates good health at discount rates while poor remain a petri dish (1) and wealth a coward’s shield. There’s just one planet all live on, ‘blue pearl’ of life that orbits Sun with oxygen for boy and girl whatever color skin reflects, ‘Ark’ floats the human race. Is earth (we’re Custer?), man’s ‘last stand,’ though some still dream of space formed Ark, perhaps, advantaged few might seek to find? New star with pearl (light-years away) odds fraught with risk, a sad guitar remembers past mistakes we’ve made, the sins we’re prone to make (our history’s frail song!) In love, let stanzas drive a stake through heart (of fool’s escape) where colors bleed from future’s rose, where life counts more than cliff’s purview and balancing on toes. How white is it to love police who keep the poor in check (though cops aren’t rich, pay taxes too)? White trash kneels on their neck! Can justice come arresting rich, from giving whores the sack, when hungry, less-white gun less sick “are waiting to attack?” How white to vote Conservative (truth God’s ships dumped ashore), “one man, one vote” (2), the love of guns (3), fake Christian to the core. How cool is it that whites preach ‘coloreds’ cursed by God, abject, though black girls ‘warmer’ than ‘free’ wives (a slave cannot object!) Black wench enslaved by Jefferson (4) bore him six kids, his right! As death drew near, they caught no break, no ‘will’ addressed their plight. Do whites owe reparations now, should ‘Christians’ want to pay? Will whites cry “Lord!” when Christ returns and come to rue that day? Long Tooth May 2nd in 2021 Poet’s Notes: (1) If COVID has taught us anything, its lesson is that poverty is a petri dish that can promote pandemics that only a lucky few will escape. We help to save ourselves by seeking better health for the weakest among us. (2) Women and slaves were considered intellectually inferior (more like children) by our founding fathers. (3) Let’s help fight poverty here in America by giving assault rifles with huge magazines to the poor so they can go deer hunting and feed themselves. (4) Thomas Jefferson did not free his slaves as George Washington did when Washington died before him. Jefferson considered blacks and women (of all colors) to be inferior to white men. One man, one vote! To free a slave was akin to “abandoning children!”
