Some Relatives Need a Goodbye
they put her down, made fun of her, called her crazy She laughed with them, for she was socialized. They had made sure of that. She spent years and years trying to get them to like her. Not understanding that they already did. It was the best they had, the best they could do. A philosopher once said “When they know better, they will do better.” Not her relatives though because surely they knew that calling her idiot hurt, right? She stayed in her cage, lamenting the life she never made. The family she never had. The love she never received. Never realizing she was part of the problem. She had more loyalty to her preconceived notions Than she had to the possibility that they were doing their best And maybe she was not a total idiot.
