Modern Day Icarus
Ladies and good men, And those in between, I have a short tale, Let me paint a scene. Someone saw a girl And began to fall, Like Icarus loved The sun with exalt. At first she thought she’d Just like to be friends, But then she realised This was more intense. She told two others these feelings she felt Two friends, she thought safe. (Her wings will soon melt.) She flew toward the sun, Feeling like a king, Her secret was safe, Or so you would think. One friend told one more, the secret she knew, They were not loyal, Not honest, not true. The girl found them out And swore her revenge, But when she got it, People called “Villain!” She was stole away, Put in quarantine. Her wings were now gone, She started drowning. Her head was under, She stopped swimming up, The girl she once prized Pulled her from the flood They became best friends, Her crush faded out, Held each other up, Refused to just drown. They swam to the top And she wrote a poem In lines of 5 sounds, Made of truths her own. She can’t tell others How to tell their tale. If she’s the villain That’s their truth, oh well. But she knows her own, And that’s all she needs, She’ll learn from her fault And make some new wings. Her new friends won’t melt Her wings or her pride, They’ll make her happy, And they’ll let her fly.
