Forlorn Hope
In the wilderness of wasteland my hope turned into a desolate bird, it grew the wings of soaring desire, and flew out in the air of yearning to reach the vanishing rainbow, the evening sun made deftly in the moist morose sky. It flew at the fringe of silver-lined cloud, making complex designs in emptiness, I tried to decode for long. Some I could, many I couldn’t, but its flight made new motifs, alluring me to make dreams, but I never could. Stranded in the obscure pathway to the flushing meadow, lost in the haze of the twilight dust, I gave up the pursuit in the end, for the forsaken hope with wings flies away not to ever land, and one could never catch. I stood in the middle of nowhere with my abandoned mind empty as the sky, and wished the bird that flew away would return some day as a beautiful flitting butterfly. The flutter of its latticed wings would whisper to me ‘forlorn hope is a bird, in the melting rainbow colors it disappears’. ___________ April 20, 2021 Title chosen : Forlorn Hope Contest : This Or That Vol 2 Sponsor : Edward Ibeh
