A Final Farewell To Mom
You didn't have much to offer, But you offered what you had. Your life had not been easy, And sometimes that made you mad. Common sense was not your wont, And you made a lot of mistakes; So you and Daddy argued a lot, When he tried to put on the brakes. You refused to be bullied, Not to be dictated to, So you bullied everyone else, To keep them from bullying you. You didn't mean to be that way, Didn't want to be filled with spite. You wanted us to love you, Though you made it hard to be liked. As time went on you got older, Though wiser you never would be. Your family gathered around you, To help because you couldn't see. You made your mistakes, I guess that's true, But nobody's perfect, And I've made mine too. But you were always there to talk to me. You were always there to listen. Now scared and lonely there you sat, All alone in your kitchen; Waiting there for Meals-On-Wheels, To come and make your day. To talk and pass a little time, 'Fore going on their way; Hoping that someone will call, And talk a little while. When young you were unbending, And now you're like a child. Deep down I know your heart was good. I know you loved us all. You just didn't know how to show it. You didn't know much at all. You never had much schooling, Could read and write alright, But that seems where it all just stopped, And someone just turned off the light. You just never matured it seemed to me. You were never able to grow. In your mind you remained a little girl. As I grew it began to show. I finally stopped being mad at you, For all I suffered through. You offered me all you had to give, And all you had was you. Mom, I want to thank you, For all you tried to do. You did the best that you knew how, And I will always love you.
