Its aroma, juxtaposed with the presence of death, imprinted that alabaster rose upon my mind. And I can still recall the sensual feel of its velvet petals softly brushing my cheek, evoking memories of mom that brings both, a smile to my heart, and a tear to my eye. I had squeezed its thorns so hard, a trickle of scarlet drops silently ran unnoticed down my trembling hand, pooling at my crimson dribbling fingertips. And I placed that bleeding rose on a mound of earth, focusing on its beauty as I said goodbye to an angel, the woman who bore me, my mom.
