A Meditation On 'Giving In God's Will'
I could be way off base, but I think that ‘Control’ and ‘Graced Giving’ are opposites, poles that can’t meet in a space with dimensions, where sanity floats and integrity lives (for one can’t buy a gift!) ‘Good Samaritan’s Parable’ helps us to grok those receivers, receptive to aid, blessed and bless (when help shows up in spades!) For it ‘lets’ givers give who please God with their gifts, and ‘forgives’ those who pass. Do more ‘givers’ serve God or’ receivers?’ My soul is not privy to judgments like this. Our sins greet us at dawn, pose with good the whole day, bridge the moats of night’s keep (sin’s sleep dreams kept at bay?) Are you miffed this applies to you too? Is humility crock? When receivers choose shame, self-styled givers confess their anointment by God, do past actions forgive them for gifts they ‘forgot’ in a moment’s impasse. Should a penchant (pride-driven?) where we won’t receive ‘gifts God gives’ be considered more sin? Take your ease in His bounty to show the poor Grace (as you walk in the faith that He asks of us all.) Who builds bins for more grain? I know well how I lean; it’s the jest (1) of my poem. If Grace is God’s gift, where’s my debt? Or is loving my soul from before ‘Time’ the joke? I think God’s love’s more proved by the lives His Words save. Is it “better to give than receive?” (2) Are you slave to appearances, doing what’s RIGHT (Our Lord’s yoke He calls, “Easy!” His burden is “Light!”), or regret some can sin and still find Grace IS theirs? Where’s the test? Faith just opens one’s heart to Christ’s call. Might-have-beens go on Sundays to churches, ‘dip toes’ in the Talk, “Yes, Lord! How we love Jesus!” Walk after Him? “Please!” Oh, how tangled webs get when the players deceive. Long Tooth February 27th in 2021 Poet’s Notes: Let me blatantly inquire of you what my poem more softly suggests, “Even if there is no God, how can there be a difference between giving and receiving in God’s Will?” (1) The word ‘gist’ is also suggested here, but jest is the better choice. (2) I still feel horrified by stories my parents told me of farmers who refused government relief for their starving families, their children (out of false pride?) during ‘dust bowl days.’ I have little doubt these stories were true, for we see it today in those who refuse to wear masks, refuse a free vaccine for COVID even. Can a greater vanity even exist than contributing to the death of family members and friends (to avoid sin) while pretending to believe in Grace? How many deaths does one have to contribute to before you become a mass murderer? The number 500,000+ comes to mind.
