But last Friday evenin’ ‘e threw out a whopper that brung ‘im up close to a liar by claimin’ the beer-after-beer ‘e were downin’ was needed for dousin’ a fire Burnin’ away in ‘is ‘eart fer the filly ‘e’d wanted fer most of ‘is life, But…when ‘e weren’t lookin’…some feller from Dublin ‘ad taken the lass for ‘is wife! Well…all of us knowed that the gal ‘e was meanin’ would never o’ taken ‘is ‘and! Nay…she would o’ married that feller from Dublin regardless what Paddy had planned! Well…Kelly’s was packed to the gills when that very same feller come stumblin’ in! ‘e claimed ‘e’d been over at Murphy’s a-drinkin’ since seven - and now it were ten. When somebody quizzed ‘im ‘bout why ‘e’d come over to Kelley’s an’ started again… ‘e claimed ‘e was meanin’ to pickle ‘is mind…..an’ Murphy ‘ad run outta gin! “Anythin’ special that’s makin’ ya’ try?”….the bartender cordially pried. “My life,” ‘e replied, “‘as been goin’ ta e since the day that I took me a bride!” Well…it might be a little bit ‘ard to believe…but the truth o’ the matter is this - There’s times - when yer aimin’ ta win a girl’s ‘eart - that yer far better off if ya’ miss! Ya’ see… Paddy were drinkin’ fer missin’ ‘is chance to ‘ve married the wife o’ this lad… an’ the lad were a-doin’ the very same t’ing --- regrettin’ the fact that ‘e ‘ad!!
