Cold
Winter’s wrath has come at last, Out of the swirling sand-like sea To take all warmth within each heart, And I know that he’s come for me His sleek skin shines a pallid white; His ancient mouth devouring light, With icy fangs and howling might, And my soul shivers at the sight His hollow eyes are on me now I ask, ‘what do you want from me?’ But all my words are swept away, And shatter soundless at my feet The beast comes closer to me still, And though I have no voice, I cry, ‘There is no warmth for you to take’ ‘All of my blood is cold and dry’ His body towers over mine, And my eyes close as I prepare To feel his frigid, deathly hold Upon my shaking shoulders bare But as I stand awaiting death, He passes by with frozen breath, His eyes in search of other souls Where warmth still dwells instead of cold.
