Valentines Day 2021
This Valentine’s Day it is thirty degrees below zero So flowers would die, right? Even the dog won’t go out there. We plant marigolds, optimistically in styro-foam cups. Breakfast is cinnamon and sugar toast for me, eggs for him. We had bacon, but Sophie Helen, our cocker ate most of it. My husband was in the snuggling mood. We tried. Sophie ended up scooting us with her corpulent butt. “Our baby!” We say oohing and ahhing about her. She is the only one who stayed; our girls left years ago. We watch car wrecks on the news; they are horrible. Not sure why we are riveted. About five o’clock a child calls us. She wants to know what we have been doing all day. I am delighted, at first, until I realize she has the wrong mom. “Which one was it?” My husband asks hopefully. We have three girls. There is no way I am telling him it is a wrong number. Why ruin Valentine’s Day?
