Cowboy's On the Trail
The cattle were lowing in the dry heat and dust, cowboy's must put life's on the line- they had to trust; trust in the skill of other cowboys and their skill, sometimes, moving stubborn long horns was all uphill. Working long days until the relentless sun set, gathering 'round camp for a loud cowboy duet; eating beans and strong coffee and telling wild tales, tales of storms, love and mishaps and life on the trails. Cowboys were lean, loyal and just a bit rowdy, waiting for the drive end so they could say howdy; howdy to those fancy saloon gals and for booze, laughin' they headed for a bath to soak a bruise. A bruise or two, hair cut, shave, tattoo and new duds, now, they were jokin' and ready for lots of suds; entering the saloon they were greeted with cheers, getting drunk, telling new tales that will last for years. ________________________ January 22, 2021 Poetry/Rhyme/Cowboy's on the Trail Copyright Protected, ID 01-1322-924-22 All Rights Reserved, 2021, Constance La France Written for the Standard contest, Cowboy Poetry sponsor, Line Gauthier, Judged 02/03/2021 Fourth Place
