Little Sparrow Afraid of Winter
No snow has fallen yet, daises still soak up sunlight, no wind makes them shiver; grannies gather outside and chat, many have silver-gray hair. Little sparrow afraid of winter trembling and imagining snowflakes and that Northern wind with furious gusts, it's December and spruces have no frost, meadows glisten and ravens whimper, stay in your nest soon you'll fall asleep and fear no longer can scare you more than it can frighten the shivering sheep huddled together waiting for dusk to rest. Children are in school dogs don't bark but nap; no older man loses his cap snapped by a sudden gust; mothers lull their babies to sleep, some widows pray and weep, only one knits a shawl with wool. Little sparrow afraid of winter, find shelter under the shingles of the roof near the smoking chimney to stay warm and sing; winter can be brutal and inclement, other birds have survived and conquered their fear... do the same and look forward to spring when the constant and loud goof of a stranded dog that straddling his tail anticipates the arrival of gulls from the mild Southern States. Little sparrow afraid if winter, your wait is too long and too unfair; if courage can defeat fret, victory will continue to prevail and a scary and trembling sparrow hiding in the wind-blown nest... soon will soar in search of marrow, never remembering the gusty chill!
