Enter Poem or Quote (Required)Required HUMBLE PIE I like to eat desserts, it seems, like ice cream, donuts, cake; The more delicious things I see, the more I want to take. There’s candy, fudge, and brownies, too; they all will catch my eye, But one dessert I hate to eat has been called “humble pie.” For now and then I find myself a little swelled with pride And think I’m so deserving of this feeling there inside. I justify myself so much, I think I’m always right, Yet I am sure when others look, I’m such a dreadful sight! So when the bubble finally bursts and I’m brought one swift blow To where I’m struggling from effects that brought me to this low, It’s hard to go back to the place where all the goodies lie And pass them up until I get that piece of “humble pie.” I’d rather leave it on the dish for someone else to eat; I’d rather revel in a win than to admit defeat. It doesn’t taste like all the rest--the donuts or the cake, And so it seems I hesitate this last dessert to take. But now that I have ate a piece, I’ve found it did me good, Much better than the other things I thought were better food. We all should pass those other things that beg to grab our eye More often than we like to do and just eat “humble pie.” For Jesus said the one who would just put this on his plate Would find himself exalted when he took his food and ate. So help me, Lord, to place myself there in Your righteous eye With nothing on my plate to eat but just that “humble pie.”
