Thing One and Thing Two
The best Christmas was the Christmas I became Thing Two. Thing One named me, and with her I was never sad or blue. Her name was Linda, she was the ultimate school nurse. It cost me some money, but I was glad to open my purse. Linda had been generous with children who were in need. She would call the parents and ask if she could gift or feed. Her Christmas list started out with six families at first. By the time I joined her, this giving list was filled to almost burst. We went shopping and bought everything we thought we could. Within a few years, our list was longer than Pooh’s 100 acre wood. A wonderful benefactor found out and gave us five hundred dollars. Gleefully, we would laugh and shout; they were exuberant hollers. Parents who came to collect the wrapped gifts, and yes we did that too. Were grateful with tears in their eyes, wanting to thank me, Thing Two. I always steered them round the corner to Linda, Thing Number One. The most wonderful Christmases of all; 2018 was truly great fun!
