A Tribute To a Great Preacher
A TRIBUTE TO A GREAT PREACHER Thirty and one years ago we met a Godly man, We chose his church by random then, but it was all God’s plan. In April, 1989, we were new members there, And God had truly answered then a very special prayer. I’d prayed about our moving from where then I was employed, And when we saw that church name there, I was so overjoyed. We had a Christian school that shared the same name of before But little did we know back then what God would have in store. We grew to love the people soon and every time he’d preach His love would flow so freely from his voice to all would reach. I shared some failures of my life with him one certain day; He never turned his back on me and said to go away. When we went to the Holy Land by Jordan’s River’s way I wanted him to baptize me and he did so that day. And when we visited the place where Jesus bled and died, We took communion and again I bowed my head and cried. He had compassion on me when my father went to be With Jesus in that home above for all eternity. I wrote a poem for him once, but little did I know That what God gave me in that poem would really touch him so. He said I had a special gift, a talent I should share And so I told the Lord, “IT’S YOURS!” and gave it to Him there. When he announced he would retire, we were not there that day, But what a Sunday that we had when our tributes we did pay! I have a copy of that day and some preaching of him, too, But now I look on for the day I see him in the blue. God took him oh so peacefully one November afternoon, On SUNDAY! What a special day to see His Lord so soon! I know I could say so much more about this man, I know, When I see him again above, I know I’ll thank him so For thirty-one years of my life to know this Godly man— Though met by random on that day, I know it was God’s plan! And now another saint has gone to meet so many where He’ll meet so many just like me he touched with special care. --In memory of Dr. Lawrence Grandy, November, 2020
