Spirit Or Flesh
SPIRIT or flesh or both; what take you -- love and life? or a memory upon your trail that message i await upon lips, that everlasting night? Or a glance at the world, that future, the horizon, that shining sun that sunrise, that night? these fleeting words, the images fading across my mind: a waltz upon a dark - dying world - my soul your night - as yours shall be, for the shape that we are can never be told and another another in this moment do these bring light or shadows of darkness? how can our earthly notion that there is no more time (there is never) at some end, what sense of time and loneliness is that? you must have filled hours with me - the bridge, the classroom, the dance studio, where at the end of class we would practice a foxtrot like the lightning that shoots through the air or the clock at the beginning of summer vacation that seemed to keep time like some false god so much bound by numbers and then a wild dog was in the neighborhood and he had his paws upon our shoulders and we ran running that little white tip and the earth kept a beat for us running until in a moment just at the edge of thought, we took a leap to this one : a look in each others eyes and a heart that was free until the dog got loose and so many years had slipped into a new life and we were only older or younger the length of our time; our memories tied with only one finger to grasp a tear or a smile at a shared memory or a new thrill made us scream, like babies who have not grown up until there is nothing. 12.10.2020
