Winds of Change
tireless pendulum swings from left to right, and then from right to left as time goes by, the hand of fate churns the change out of sight, moments sail past across zodiac sky! trees score seasons within bark with growth rings, nights change, moon embarks on its wobbly trail, twittering birds seek hides fluttering wings, moist eyes lament their dead to no avail! hearts beat on with new hopes of better days, mother cuddles new born to sacred chest, rivers gush, waters searching easy ways, countless petals open at springs behest! fresh winds blow past with whiffs of memory, loose feather, dried leaf, lover’s lost letter, ink pen that trailed off in dad’s diary, an empty bed, on it, his blue sweater! hear it strike, pendulum clock on hallway, has watched me from baby locks to hairs grey! 2nd placement Written 28/11/2020 John Hamilton Winds of Change sonnet contest 10 syllables per line ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH II breaking the 14 line rule! this has 18 lines.
