November
My vibrant white and yellow mums all wilt when mid-November comes. Bright swirling leaves of gold and red will soon lie still upon their bed. I’ll wait till afternoon to walk and wear a coat when cold winds stalk. This month brings more than dying leaves, short days, long nights, and cold that weaves through nature and into our bones, bare trees and icy wind that moans, more time indoors, and grim gray skies, with matching moods and weary sighs. November can assuage the gloom when asters and bright pansies bloom, lift spirits with a harvest fest or day of thanks, for we are blessed, or move a poet’s sluggish muse with nature’s unique mid-fall views.
