The Singer, Not the Song
They said I was a special child Put here by God’s design No words came out from my mouth I painted my thoughts in colour And penned my heart in line. They sent me to a special school Where we were taught to speak in sign I was indeed a special child Here there were kids just like me Who were pretty, sweet and kind. Anger welled up inside of me I cried out in frustration To be understood sometimes I wrote my feelings in lyrics now And strummed for this soul of mine. I fell in love with a special boy Who understood me very well His problems were the same as mine No words were uttered, as if we both were under a spell All expressions in touch and sign. We had a normal little boy And hung on to his every word To read his lips, a joy it was He was a special gift to us God had been truly kind. He stood on stage, a well known singer And made us sit in the front row this gentle child of mine We could never hear the applause but felt the love, coursing through our veins He sang the lyrics that I wrote Reading his lips, I hummed along in time. 11.10.2020
