Encounter With Danger
Higher and higher I climbed the TV tower, not wanting to show my peers that I was a coward. So high up off the ground, so tiny my friends looked to me. High voltage wires all around me, so close with each step I took on that small ladder that day. Hearing a voice from below calling to me, "Get down from there son." Looking down, I saw a black and white car. I climbed down very slowly and so carefully, watching each step I took. Thinking I was to be taken to jail that day so long ago, but just a chewing out I received from the policeman. My so called friends were no where in site, I was there all alone, as he told me of the dangers that I had encountered. I promised never to do it again and to obey the law at all times. The things we do when we are so young it's a wonder I lived to see manhood. wrote 11-3-08 NOTE this really happened to me in 1950, when I was seven years old. I was up around 200 feet, when the cop told me to come down. My friends had dared me to climb up the tower, so I did. they were putting in one of the first TV towers for our new tv station in Des Moines Iowa. one of the first ones there.
