Rose Cottage
In an old house, A cottage, Near the ocean, By the bay. Two shall become one, Plan their future, And dream… The house is old, But not real old, And they are young. I suppose the old house could be called a cottage… They have come, To take care of the old gal, So that she may take care of them. Yes, cottage is more befitting her size and personality. Once again there is light, Shining through her windowpanes. There is warmth in her rooms. And, of course, there is love. Love, bringing the old cottage back to life. Sounds of laughter, Echo through her frame. The cottage laughs as well, For the joy of a new life. She is clean and bright, Filled with “knickknacks” and furniture, Family antiques and heirlooms from the past, And new “stuff” for the future. All are welcome, To enjoy her comfort. Inside her walls, They are safe from the storms. Outside, the pallor of neglect, Is replaced by the color of bright, beautiful flowers, Dancing in the sun. A lone rose opens her eyes, And sees new life in the old cottage. She smiles, And a cool sea breeze blows past her, Through an open window, Filling the cottage with her perfume. Near the ocean, By the bay, In the old cottage, On a new sofa, Sit a man and woman, Hand in hand. They have come to share their life and love, With each other, The old cottage, And the little rose bush, In the flowerbed, By the front porch, With one rose at a time.
