An Unknown King
AN UNKNOWN KING I dug deeper down into the dirt and dust; until the skeleton beneath I found He was still wrapped in oilcloth and slightly lopsided on his head was a crown A sword and shield carefully wrapped in animal skin were still highly preserved And with all the royal trappings that were only made for such a king reserved Medieval in nature, no missing kings on the list a self-proclaimed one perhaps Hard to detect, who this person was a king to; when such a time had elapsed A king never the less, buried under this mound waiting centuries to be found No horse, nor dog, or a royal wife, he just alone lay, within this burial ground Not one broken bone visible, his body was preserved in the best possible way Would we find the answers, as to what made this king die way back in his day Body exhumed, scanned, x-rayed, and his D.N.A that was carefully extracted And the DNA placed against the database with a hope of finding any matches As this wasn’t China back in 577AD, this was England so we waited until 1826 Before we found a match, made by a man called John Walker, of fire on a stick There were more improvements on the matches, as we went on down the line But; none of them made a blind bit of difference, to a king we could never find Indiana Shaw . . . ; )
