John's Blues
Go ahead and lie; and tell me it’s alright; Lie to me and maybe; we'll get through this night. Our love is on and off again; and I simply just don’t know; If this might be the very day; that you chose to go. So go ahead and lie; if it's how it has to be; No one really has to know; you make a fool of me. Sometimes when you’re leaning; on that darker side; Do you think that maybe; it’s the safest place to hide? It’s very soon now baby; that I know you’ll see; There’s no denying misery; loves its company. And I know you want to quit me baby; another time again; But I got to tell you girl; quitters never win. The last time that I called; I heard you on the phone; You told me not to call again; and I was on my own Now I wander baby; out here all alone And the only thing I think about; is what we called our home. My cloths are worn and dirty; but my hair is cleaned and combed; But my friends they are all worried; that I'm skin and bone. In my pockets there is nothing; and I got the blues; And my shoes and socks are worn out; and they’re looking used. You know I got arrested; but they let me out; But the Sheriff said he knew you; and gives you out a shout. I think I’ll buy a bottle; for the cold tonight; And count the times you use to tell me; we would be alright. Waiting on the corner; for the light to change; Someone starts to look at me; as if I were deranged; Maybe I should go back; to that empty room; And tell myself don’t worry; I'll see you real soon. Those lips too full of honey; That made my knees so weak; It's left me praying up to heaven; for my soul to keep.
