Deforestation
When she took off her veil She saw a face, much known, staring at her. She could hear an echo of a familiar voice, a usual tone. But she could not see her. There. The voice she heard, Did it sing back a memory? She did not know for sure. The reflection she saw seemed like a mirage. Staring back through those searching eyes, And through those searching years. The veranda of eyes is extensive enough And the light of that reflection is brighter enough Telling since the day before. Keep on searching Keep on cleansing Keep on Perceiving What else can you do? And why is it needed, anyway? A mandatory presence without enthusiasm What right message could it bring? And eventually, she understood...… Someone was losing it, all The vast horizon, the land of aspiration And the seashore of the imagination of the unbreakable free. She could sense the softer voice, the caring hand. Mixing curry and rice before feeding with affection A Silence ponders there for understanding the questions deeply. Without giving away an inch, lest it could hit redundancy That depth of meaning also fades away, day by day. And all those mornings are vanishing, one by one. A light flashes out…somewhere A bucket kisses the water level of that ancient well With a rope tied to it, still unsure, still pondering. Why? Did she know the reason? Did she perceive the meaning? A spoon made a soothing sound in the cup of hot tea. It is hard to fix a deliberate judgment call, always. Did you need a more muscular wall? Did you hear her, my mighty Dhu al-Qarnayn? Her delayed hour fixes the boundary, the borderline of co-existence And somehow she knew for sure that he is coming in the morning. The foundation of her lost home, with her tale of the beginning Deforestation. Note: I wanted to write a poem with an environmental issue, but, above all, it is a poem with allegory. The rest is self-explanatory. Reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dhu_al-Qarnayn
