After After the Gold Rush
(To be sung to the tune of ‘After the Goldrush’) Well I dreamed I was between two lifetimes With a chance to view what I had been I was looking for a justification For the replay that I had just seen There were some deeds I bitterly regret And I felt that I would cry Wishing for a chance to clean the slate Be forgiven for them bye and bye There are days when I see things more clearly When the Earth takes on a brighter hue Every object in its right existence No necessity to change the view What comes to pass Needs no rearrange No missed chances for which I sigh It has been an interesting experience I’d accept I might live or die I was sitting in a railway station Wondering if I should take a train Looking up to see a destination Should I leave or should I remain There was a voice On the intercom That reminded me: when I arrive I would have no recall where I’d come from I’d begin upon a brand new life ... Begin upon a brand new life
