Magical Scene
Magical Scene There was a rustling in the woods Under the arbutus tree canopy, As I climbed up the lichen covered rocks Above the shimmering ocean, Late afternoon sun streaming down. I turned to see a doe watching me With her big soft brown eyes! The hardened lichen crunched under my feet As I crept closer to her image, camera ready! Swiftly she turned and bounded away Through the old growth forest, Springing up and back down With all four legs in unison, until she faded away. So I sat on my rock and surveyed the landscape, Quietly musing, meditating, contemplating life, As I watched a fishing trawler slowly glide by, Crunching steps slowly crept through the woods..... And to my left was the doe with her baby in tow, Barely visible through the fir and arbutus trees. I slowly stood up, trying not to step on the crunch.... Once again, camera in hand, getting ready to focus. Mama looked up for a brief moment, And then lowered her head to continue her feed. Her fawn was curious, already lost it’s spots I saw. It gingerly stepped to the edge of the mossy rock. What a beautiful pose it presented to me, As it stood still, in perfect profile, Allowing me to capture that moment.... Forever etched in my digital memory! I gave thanks to this magical scene, To have experienced mother nature’s gift, As the doe trusted my presence in her domain, And shared her sweet baby with me.
