Trinity
The pedestal held the grail up high From the cusp of the golden sea A metal sheath hid her treasure from the sky Amid that forest without a tree The hands that wrought the grail coldly quavered As they anchored their vessel upon the sands But the vesicle’s burning soul neither wavered Nor spoke truth of its makers’ dread commands Ground zero, go nine-two The hand struck to ten Tick by tick it slowly flew To reforge the world again The third moment ponderously froze As the dunes all held their warming breath At two, all the makers’ eyes shut close To hail the coming of the shadow of death One and the world unknowingly saw As nil came, and infinity followed The grail felt the touch of maker’s claw The maker into the cauldron’s depths was swallowed The grail spilt holy waters upon the land And anointed its surface as the first accursed A fungal cloud grew from the garden of sand And from silver sheath did golden light thus burst The brumous air was set ablaze As bright inferno seared the darkest mass The chalice waters began to glaze Those ancient sands with ebon glass At last the cleansing flames receded As the makers cheered and stood blinded in awe The ash and dust ephemerally retreated But the peril below, none truly saw Thus were many of those chalices forged To find light amongst a black crucible of fears As scores of gardens were in darkness gorged Upon the dying droplets of the grail’s holy tears But buried beneath those primordial sands Lays the first chalice still, under wooden beams Made once only by forgotten makers’ hands It will stay to remind them, to outlive their dreams
