All Shall Know Me!
Faded flags Both American and Rebel flutter Pale and neclected in the acrid October wind. Long Thin sticks poking into graves. I stand away, watching remaining unseen by the living as they lower another beloved, long forgotten by most, into the dark fragrant earth. The mourners gather closely under the tent herded together as fatted calves heaving as a dirt devil swirls tattered leaves twirl and crackle away. They shiver and glance at each other hoping to see faces they adore. Longing to leave this dreary place Praying I am appeased by the one. Shivering as they sense my presence. Shifting eyes find their elders quickly looking away Afraid of what they may witness Hurrying to their auto's they pity the old ones. Feeling young and endless they drive away with a smile Having done their duty forced by etiquette to come grateful now for the days end. I am not hurried as they think they abandon me here. I laugh from the rear seat as they shift their expensive chariots into high gear. As they turn the radio knob deafening themselves to the world I breath deeply of their scents For I am not appeased. My hunger is yet unfilled. I will snatch at will Age and Circumstance matter Not. All shall know me. I shall touch every Life with my bitterness. For I am Death!
